How the Service Society at Miller Street Dance Academy Has Impacted the Community

The Miller Street Dance Academy difference is our program is built on more than just dance. In addition to teaching our dancers correct technique, poise, and various styles, we also encourage our dancers to do well in school and to get involved in the community. After all, it’s up to us to help shape these little humans into motivated, giving young adults.

Let’s talk more about the involvement in the community. Helping others has always been a passion of mine and something I instilled in all of my dancers during their time at Miller Street Dance Academy, as well as my own child. As the studio grew and more dancers were getting involved in various service projects, the Miller Street Dance Academy Service Society was born!

What is Miller Street Dance Academy’s Service Society?

Miller Street’s Service Society consists of giving dancers with loving hearts who actively participate in community projects. Whether they donate items to existing community projects or create their own, dancers accumulate points based on participation each time they are actively giving back to the community.

Each year, the dancer with the most points accumulated is recognized for their generosity. It’s a prestigious title to hold and encourages goodwill during the most important years of a child’s life.

Through all of the efforts of our students, parents, and staff, Miller Street Dance Academy supports hundreds of projects a year with the most current projects featured on our website (for Providence and Baxter), our Facebook page, and our Instagram account.

3 ways to contribute community service projects at Miller Street Dance Academy

1. Continuous giving efforts to special organizations

There are a few organizations that Miller Street is constantly supporting through various fundraisers, events, and projects. These are organizations that are near and dear to our heart as their missions are close to home.

After my experience with breast cancer, it was a no-brainer that we wanted to join forces with Dancers Against Cancer and Drea’s Dream to support those in-need facing their own cancer battles. Last month alone, we raised almost $6500 for Dancers Against Cancer in honor of breast cancer awareness month. It was refreshing to see giving hearts thriving through a time overshadowed by a pandemic.

In addition to these two organizations above, we have also supported ACFI (African Christian’s Fellowship International) since 2008 in efforts to help feed and educate orphans in Liberia. Over the years, we have raised over $600,000 collectively through selling pink arm bands, annual penny wars, and much more!

2. Create and organize your own community service project

Learning to give and spread generosity is the heart of this service society. But, taking the leadership role of creating a project, submitting the details, organizing the donations, and being the connection with the benefiting organization is another life skill gained from the Service Society. Watching these young dancers stepping up to joyfully do good things – there’s nothing better.

Running a service project is worth the most points, but it goes beyond the points in reality. The dancers truly enjoy promoting their project through social media, at the dance studio, and to their friends.

3. Donating and contributing to community service projects

With a variety of community service projects coming from students throughout the studio, there’s always a chance to give or donate, big or small. There’s something for everyone, literally. And if you follow us on Facebook and Instagram, you can stay up-to-date on the latest projects, wish list items, and how to contribute!

As we head into the holidays, it’s important to keep giving. Ready to set up your own Service Society project? We can’t wait to hear how you want to help the community!
