Every summer we offer technique classes for dancers ages 5 and up. These classes are similar to regular season classes.

NOTE: The summer technique schedule changes every week to create lots of variety, and to accomodate busy family summer schedules. The schedule typically comes out 1-2 weeks in advance.

Student Waivers
All students participating in our summer classes must have a signed waiver (either paper or electronically) on file. If you were a student for the 2023-2024 season, registered for 2024 camp, or registered for 2024-2025 dance season, we have your waiver on file.
Acrobatics Sign-Ups
To ensure the safety of all dancers, all Acrobatics summer classes require all dancers to sign-up ahead of time. Current students should sign up in “Events” in the Parent Portal or the MSDA App. New students sign up online below!
Dress Code
All students must wear a leotard and tights to all summer technique classes. Students are allowed to wear sweat pants/t-shirts/tanks/etc. for hip-hop classes only.

Single Tickets may be purchased at the office and used on any desired class. Master Classes & Guest Teachers require two tickets.

Early bird special: $550 through 5/31
Unlimited Pass is acceptable for all regular scheduled technique and master classes. It excludes solo reviews, camps, ballet intensives, and Miss/Mr Dance Prep Classes.
Why take summer classes?
They are a great way for students to try new styles of dance and advance their technique over the summer months.
We welcome current and new students of the studio to take these classes. It’s a great way to see what Miller Street is all about!
Summer technique classes are on a pay-per-class basis. No registration is required for all but our Acro-based classes.
All participants in our Acro-based classes must sign up at the link above in order to participate in these classes. If you cancel less than 24 hours from class time, you are responsible for paying $15 or $30 (depending on if it’s a Master class or Guest Teacher) even though you have purchased a ticket or pass.
Class Descriptions & Requirements
ACRO
Acrobatics teaches flexibility, balance, strength, muscle control, discipline & concentration. This class will focus on fundamental acrobatic technique. Students will learn handstands, chin stands, elbow stands, cartwheels, back bends, walkovers, balance, contortion stretching, and tumbling. This class is great for students looking to enhance their agility, flexibility, and strength.
ACROBATIC BALANCES & CONTORTION
This class will work on tricks including but not limited to: chin stands, chest stands, elbow stands, head stands, shoulder stands, hand stands, partner balances, standing splits, arrows, perches, etc.
To take this class, dancers must have a standing back bend with no spotter, as well as standing up from back bends with no spotter.
AERIALS & BACK HANDSPRINGS
This class is designed for students who are already close to completing an aerial and/or backhandspring, or for students who want to continue to master these tricks. To take this class, students must have a cartwheel from the knee on their dominant side, and they must have their right and left side front and back walkovers with no spotter.
CONDITIONING
Includes but not limited to core strengthening, cardio vascular exercises to strengthen the different parts of the body and increase stamina. Take this class to supplement extreme stretch and stretch and strengthen classes. All levels welcome to age appropriate class.
CONTEMPORARY COMPOSITION AND IMPROVISATION
Structured improvisation and contemporary combinations and choreography combined to become a routine. Dancers explore their own movement and choreography as well as levels, space, partnering and relation to each other.
EXTREME STRETCH/LEGS & FEET/CONTORTION
This class is designed for a dancer who looking to become more flexible. The instructor will give exercises for the student to be able to practice at home. Each class may focus on a different area/body part. All levels and ages welcome.
HIP HOP
This jazz dance style will cover funk, poppin’, lockin’ and a variety of body isolations which reflect street- type movement. Seen primarily on TV in R&B music videos, Hip Hop is a form of dance that evolved out of street and break dancing moves. Hip Hop classes are taught primarily to Hip Hop, Pop and R&B music.
IMPROV
Exploration and freedom of movement, spacial awareness and structured creativity with choreography. Encompasses several styles of dance and experimenting with props. All levels welcome to age appropriate class.
JAZZ
FUN and high energy choreography is taught in this class, using current and/or upbeat music. Jazz class will focus on learning proper dance technique such as isolations of the body, improving performance quality and developing complex rhythms and patterns. Students will be exposed to various styles of jazz such as Broadway, Street and Contemporary to help develop a well rounded dancer. Class curriculum is based on ballet technique layered with traditional jazz movement and includes a proper warm-up, stretches, isolations, across-the-floor progressions, and combinations. As students progress through each level, curriculum will become increasingly more complex and intricate.
LEAPS & TURNS
This class is designed for students who want to improve the technique of their leaps and turns. Turns may include (but will not be limited to): en dehors (outside) and en dedans (inside) pirouettes, various turn progressions across the floor, and fouette turns. Leaps may include (but will not be limited to): grande jete, sauté chat, center leaps, switch leaps, and reverse leaps.
LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY
This is a beautiful dance form implementing ballet, modern & jazz techniques to express lyrics of songs; flowing, graceful, emotional and inspirational. Develop strength & flexibility while acquiring solid dance technique.
MODERN
Modern dance incorporates movement from the techniques of Ballet, Cunningham, Graham, Horton and Limon to engage and strengthen your core muscles. Modern class is meant to increase flexibility and bring a sense of connection between your mind and body.
MUSICAL THEATER
Musical Theater is a combination of Jazz and acting. With this style of dance, you are working through Jazz technique while portraying a character. Using songs from Broadway, we focus on bringing out our inner actor/actress!
TAP
Tap focuses on musical phrasing and the complexity of rhythms with emphasis on the challenge of “making melodies” with the feet. Most often, tap is danced to jazz-based music such as Swing, Big Band, Bebop, Funk and Latin styles. Good examples of famous tap dancers are Fred Astaire, Eleanor Powell, Gregory Hines and Savion Glover.
