About Melissa Smith
Melissa has been dancing since she was 3. She studied at Virginia School of the Arts and toured the United States with Dance Caravan and Andy Blankenbuehler at the age of 12. The same year she was also the double for Anna Chlumsky in the movie Trading Moms. She was not only passionate about dance and acting, she fell in love with baton twirling as well. At 16, her team won the Gold Medal in the World Championships held in Milan, Italy. She then moved to NYC and graduated from The Professional Acting Program at the Neighborhood Playhouse. Along with pursuing her acting career and studying at Broadway Dance Center she was in a dance company, Bemoved, who organized a performance to raise money for the first modern dance school for the Queen of Uganda. Alvin Ailey, dre.dance, Juilliard, and numerous other prestigious companies joined their efforts. Melissa has also worked in production and choreography. Some of her favorite shows to work on were the Tony Awards, VMA’s, and the Super Bowl Halftime where she was on the choreography team for 4 years. Melissa loves living in Charlotte with her husband Rob and her two boys, Gavin and Dylan. She is extremely excited to share her love for dance and performing with her students.
